Your role
Supporting the Director, this role will provide expert planning and urban design advice across Homes NSW and work closely with the Senior Planner to support the growth in State Significant Developments and rezoning of sites and precincts.
What you'll do
Leading and managing a team, the responsibilities of this role include:
- Providing expert policy, strategic and statutory planning advice to staff as well as Directors, Managers, and partners from the private and not for profit sectors
- Working closely with the Planning and Assessment team to ensure they are sufficiently servicing the Portfolio Delivery and Development teams
- Maintaining the most up to date knowledge around legislation to monitor legislative changes, their impact on government planning and housing policy initiatives on Homes NSW's property portfolio
- Advising on the appropriateness of different approaches to managing planning risks across projects
- Reviewing and approving compliance for residential development without consent, as per Part 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (EP&A Act) to enable the efficient delivery of Homes NSW's strategic objectives and housing developments. Also provide advice on the appropriate planning approval pathway for Homes NSW's projects, and advice and assist/manage accordingly
- Managing and achieving approvals under Part 4 of the EP&A Act (Development Applications to Council and State Significant Development Applications) for projects, including managing the interface with Councils, the State government planning agency and other State government agencies.
- Providing accurate and timely technical expert planning advice on planning policy, feasibility, studies, development options and anticipated yields for specific sites or projects to internal and external stakeholders and providers
- Leading the preparation of plans to identify and create pipelines of properties to sell, develop or hold
- Research and develop to advocate, recommend and support efficient delivery of strategic projects and planning practices that benefit Homes NSW by building effective working relationships and support planning outcomes in line with government planning policies
- Improving and enhancing practice and develop and implement continuous improvement and lessons learned initiatives
What we're looking for
Essential Requirements
The essential requirements of this role are:
- Tertiary qualifications in urban/regional planning or related discipline or equivalent planning experience.
- Eligibility for membership of a relevant industry association.
- The role may involve travel both locally and regionally, including overnight travel, as required by the business and/or directed.
To be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will have:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in leading and developing teams
- Experience in State Significant Development Applications and planning and assessment
- High attention to detail
- Strong stakeholder management skills
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation
- Ability to manage a high-level workload with competing deadlines
