Quarantine and Cargo Officer

The Quarantine and Cargo Officer reports to the Quarantine Manager. The Quarantine and Cargo Officer will operate the cargo function for all sites and undertake inspections of personnel, equipment and materials transported by air through the NJE Terminal to Barrow Island. Duties will be undertaken in accordance with procedures and systems as defined in the Quarantine Management Plan, Cargo Processing Manual, Group Dangerous Goods Manual, and other relevant manuals. This is a permanent part-time opportunity.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

• Holding safety as a core value and contributing to a Zero Harm and incident/injury-free environment through active participation in relevant safety programs.

• Demonstrating and upholding NJE's core values.

• Ensuring all cargo, including special freight, complies with regulations, specifications, and procedures for carriage.

• Compiling cargo paperwork, such as manifests and NOTOCs, and maintaining adequate records for each flight.

• Confirming outbound shipments are properly accommodated on the assigned aircraft with regard to size, volume, and weight, and conducting heavy item risk assessments where necessary.

• Assessing Dangerous Goods cargo in accordance with acceptance protocols.

• Sorting inbound freight and collecting documentation.

• Conducting housekeeping, surveillance, and monitoring at the NJE Terminal, including remediation in cargo and quarantine areas.

• Inspecting personnel, personal effects, equipment, materials, and aircraft before mobilisation to BWI.

• Inspecting and verifying cargo destined for Barrow Island.

• Ensuring correct application of pest treatments as per specifications.

• Ensuring systems remain audit-compliant.

• Entering pre-border data and completing intervention statistic documentation.

• Conducting stock-taking and ordering materials used at the terminal.

• X-raying mail.

• Collecting and disposing of quarantine declaration cards.

• Delivering and conducting training as required.

• Performing other duties as necessary.

To be considered for this position with NJE, you must have:

• The ability to obtain an Aviation Security Identity Card (ASIC) (Essential)

• A forklift license or the ability to obtain one (Essential)

• A Dangerous Goods acceptance certificate or the ability to obtain one (Essential)

• A sufficient level of fitness to handle cargo and climb into the aircraft hold for inspections (Essential)

• A high level of attention to detail and the flexibility to work various hours as part of an integrated team (Essential)

• Intermediate typing and computer skills (Essential)

• Previous experience in a quarantine, logistics, and/or airport environment (Desirable)
