About Us

Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the `Courts Group'.

VCAT

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) is a justice service that resolves a wide range of disputes for the Victorian community, including renting, planning, and consumer disputes. VCAT is committed to delivering an accessible service for all Victorians and is transforming our digital products and services to make it faster, easier, and more convenient for people to come to the tribunal.

About the Role

Case Officers play a critical role in supporting VCAT's case management process by ensuring matters are jurisdictionally sound, procedurally complete, and ready for hearing. The role involves:

  • conducting jurisdictional checks to ensure cases are appropriately filed under VCAT's legislative framework
  • preparing cases and ensuring all necessary documentation and procedural steps are complete efficiently
  • proactively liaises with applicants, respondents, legal representatives and internal teams to resolve procedural issues
  • identification and escalation of cases with incomplete or non-compliant documentation
  • supporting Tribunal Members by ensuring cases are hearing-ready
  • maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records within VCAT's case management system
  • preparing and distributing court orders, judgements, and other legal documents as needed
  • contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency

There are 2 x ongoing roles available

About You

The ideal candidates will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to proactively engage with a wide range of stakeholders using their knowledge of VCAT's jurisdiction, legislation and procedural rules.

You will also have:

  • strong attention to detail and possess the ability to assess case information for completeness and compliance
  • experience using case management systems and digital workflows to track and manage cases
  • strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • a superior commitment to the delivery of excellent customer service, engaging professionally and clearly
  • demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to respond to shifting priorities in a dynamic environment

Experience with case management in a legal, tribunal or government setting will be considered highly desirable.
