Details: The ACT Courts and Tribunal (ACTCT) supports the proper administration of justice by providing high-quality support to judicial officers and tribunal members and high-quality services to those using the Courts and Tribunal. It provides the Supreme Court (SC), Magistrates Court (MC) and ACT Civil and Administrative (ACAT) with registry, court support, forensic, corporate and strategic services.

The Registrar's Office (Supreme Court) and Registrar's Office (Magistrates Court) provides support to the Supreme and Magistrates Courts and the judiciary including exercising statutory powers of a registrar of the court and providing policy and procedural advice. The Supreme and Magistrates Court registry provides high level administrative support to the judiciary in the performance of their roles, and to the parties and legal representatives who appear in the courts.

The Supreme Court Registry operations consist of the following areas:

  • Criminal Registry
  • Listings and Admissions and
  • SC and MC Civil Registry

The registry functions include accepting documents for filing, arranging conferences and hearings, maintaining court files, managing the bail office, issuing subpoenas, collecting court fees, entering data in the case management system, generating court documents and providing general advice about court rules, practices and procedures.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director and Senior Team Leaders, you will provide customer service and administrative support to court users and clients across various jurisdictions of the Supreme and Magistrates Court. This includes timely and accurate processing and lodging of documents using the Integrated Courts Management System (ICMS).

This role deals directly with the parties before the court. In this context you will provide high-quality customer service, answer enquiries, exercise functions under a statutory appointment of a Deputy Registrar, issue court orders and documents and manage and monitor trust payments and collection of public monies as required at the front counter of the ACT Law Courts.

This position is also required to handle sensitive and protected information. Therefore, you will be required to fulfill your role in line with legislation, policy, procedures and protocols, with maturity, sensitivity, courtesy and compassion.

  • Computer literacy skills are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for using an electronic case management system, IT systems, email and/or other Information technology systems; once proficient you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.
  • Experience working in a court environment is highly desirable.
  • To be eligible for permanent or temporary employment within the ACT Public Service (ACTPS) you must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or hold a valid work visa.
  • If an officer no longer holds a visa that permits them to work in Australia, their employment with the ACTPS will be terminated.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo a National Criminal History check.

Notes: This is a temporary position available for a period of 12 months from 5 January 2026 up until 4 January 2027. This position is part-time/job share at 14:42 hours per week on Monday and Tuesday, and the full-time salary noted above will be pro-rata. Due to the operational requirement of this part-time/job share role, hybrid working arrangements are not suitable for this position. This role may be required to be rostered to work weekend shifts and over the Christmas Shutdown period.
