Details: Legal Services is a central team within Children, Youth and Families (CYF) that supports a range of legal activities across the Child and Family Safety and Support Services Branch and the Youth Justice and Adolescent Services Branch.

The team are responsible for making applications to the Courts for orders, or to vary or revoke orders, make applications to the Mental Health Tribunal, support the Executive and staff with review of decision applications in ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal (ACAT), support staff to make applications for Workplace Protection Orders and/or Personal Protection Orders, attend Children's and Supreme Court for Youth Justice criminal matters and other coordination and requests relating to advice for staff, legal matters and the courts.

We are looking for a Legal Assistant to assist the team with a range of supporting activities, including the monitoring of a central mailbox, filing of documents, record keeping and preparation of court documents.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

  • Experience and/or a desire to work in a community services environment is essential.
  • Experience and/or a desire to work in a legal environment is essential.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and database systems is essential.
  • Experience in the preparation of court documents and knowledge of the court and tribunal system and relevant procedures is desirable.
  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to: Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
  • As this role is likely to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and young people, cultural awareness, the capacity to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is highly desirable.
