About Us

Greater Northern Community Services provides supports for adolescents and adults living with disabilities to reach their full potential. We work closely with our clients supporting them with daily self-care activities, attending appointments, and accessing the community, with a focus on encouraging and promoting active, healthy, and positive lifestyle choices.

The Role

We are urgently seeking a compassionate Female Support Worker for an adult participant with complex psychosocial needs in Melbourne CBD. This participant lives independently in a hotel residence and requires companionship, emotional support, and assistance with daily structure and engagement.

Participant Overview:

  • Female participant, living independently in Melbourne CBD (6+ years)
  • Experiences trauma triggers, anxiety, BPD, and self-harm risk

The ideal support worker will have strong communication skills, a kind and calm nature, and experience supporting participants with trauma, anxiety, and psychosocial conditions.

Supports Required:

  • Companionship and emotional support
  • Routine building and daily structure
  • Engagement in safe and positive activities
  • De-escalation and calm support during trauma triggers
  • Oversight for self-harm and suicidal ideation risks

Participant Requirements (must strictly meet all):

  • Female Support Worker
  • Around 30 years old (participant preferrence)
  • Fluent English and strong communication skills
  • Calm, kind, and reliable personality with ability to set boundaries
  • Experience with psychosocial / mental health support (preferred)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide companionship and supportive presence in the participant's home
  • Assist with daily structure, engagement, and safe routines
  • Monitor and respond to emotional wellbeing, including risks of self-harm
  • De-escalate triggers with calm, respectful support

Work Hours:

  • 10 hours per week
  • Start Date: Saturday, 6th September :00am – 3:00pm)
  • Ongoing Roster: Mondays & Fridays: 4 hours each

Remuneration

  • You will be paid fortnightly.
  • Rates will be competitive and based on experience and qualifications, in line with industry standards (+ Superannuation). Specific rates will be discussed with successful applicants.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must meet all participant preferences (see above)
  • Previous experience in disability, mental health, or individual support highly regarded
  • Certificate III or IV in Disability, Individual Support, or similar (highly regarded)
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Valid First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009)
  • National Police Check (within last 12 months)
  • Full Driver's Licence, Car Insurance and reliable vehicle
  • Must have the right to work in Australia
  • Ability to foster a positive, trusting connection with participant and family
