About the role

The Academic Advisor plays a pivotal role in empowering students to achieve their educational and personal goals. Through proactive collaboration and internal partnerships, the Academic Advisor provides comprehensive advice and guidance that enhances student success and progression, ensuring individual educational aspirations are realised. To achieve this, the role will require collaboration with university stakeholders ensuring knowledge base and resources remain up to date.

The position leads strategic academic development initiatives including the Targeted Tutorial Assistance (TTA) program managing a pool of approximately 60 tutors, Oorala Indigenous Scholars program, and TRACKS success program. Through proactive collaboration with university stakeholders and community partners, the Academic Advisor ensures comprehensive systems are in place to enhance student progression and achievement.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Lived experience as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who has successfully undertaken university studies or has extensive experience in student support, program administration or a related field.
  • A strong commitment to ensuring the academic success of UNE's Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, understanding the challenges and barriers that our students face.
  • Deep knowledge of university systems and academic frameworks, with the ability to make these accessible and meaningful for our students.
  • Strong leadership in building and maintaining relationships across university and professional networks.
  • Effective organisational skills demonstrated through your experience managing programs or projects for tertiary education students.
