Electronics Production Manager
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Production Manager to lead our small but dedicated electronics manufacturing team. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and is passionate about driving quality and efficiency in PCB and electronics assembly.
As Production Manager, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the manufacturing process, with a strong focus on Surface Mount Technology (SMT), Through-Hole Technology (THT) and mechanical assembly. Your role will include overseeing day-to-day operations, production scheduling, inventory management, workflow optimisation, quality control and continuous process improvement. The production team, consisting of technicians, assembly operators, and apprentices, will report to you for direction, support, and technical guidance to ensure all output meets work instructions and industry standards.
We're looking for someone with a solid background in electronics manufacturing, who understands IPC standards, has experience with pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, AOI/visual inspection, and is comfortable troubleshooting production issues on the floor. The ideal candidate will be highly organised, solutions-focused and capable of balancing both strategic planning and hands-on involvement in the production process. You will report to, and be supported by, our leadership team of managers and engineers.
This is a permanent full-time position after a three-month qualifying period. Standard workdays are Monday to Friday. We will provide complete in-house training on our equipment and product lines. If you're a proactive, technically minded leader with a strong work ethic and a passion for quality electronic assembly, we'd love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, manage and continuously improve all electronic manufacturing processes, with a focus on efficiency, throughput and minimising production downtime.
- Ensure strict adherence to the production schedule, coordinating resources to meet delivery deadlines without compromising quality.
- Oversee SMT, THT and mechanical assembly operations, including real-time monitoring of output and production metrics.
- Maintain rigorous quality control standards, ensuring all assembled products meet engineering specifications, IPC standards and customer requirements.
- Lead and manage the production team, including performance management, skills development and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Train and mentor production staff on processes, equipment use and quality assurance practices.
- Coordinate with engineering and quality teams to troubleshoot and resolve production issues, rework and process variances.
- Liaise directly with some customers as needed, ensuring clear communication, effective issue resolution and a strong focus on Customer Relationship Management (CRM) to maintain satisfaction and trust.
- Ensure all machinery, tools and production equipment are maintained, calibrated, and operating at optimal performance.
- Contribute to broader operational planning by working closely with the leadership team on day-to-day decision-making and long-term process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with all WHS (Work Health and Safety) regulations, policies and site-specific risk controls.
- Manage outgoing product repairs and RMA (Return Material Authorization) processes, ensuring timely turnaround and accurate reporting.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Engineering degree or relevant TAFE diploma in the electrical / electronic field
- Proven experience in production management, ideally within an electronics manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of electronic assembly processes
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to plan, delegate, and drive performance.
- Hands-on experience in assembly work, including the use of hand tools and precision soldering.
- Solid knowledge of quality assurance procedures, workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations with practical experience in their implementation.
- Familiarity with IPC standards, particularly IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) and IPC-7711/7721 (Rework, Modification, and Repair of Electronic Assemblies).
- Competent in the use of MS Office, MS Teams, ERP systems and other digital tools relevant to production and team coordination.
