South Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Andromeda Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

The Bigger Picture

At Andromeda Robotics, we're not just imagining the future of human-robot relationships, we're building it. Abi is the first emotionally intelligent humanoid companion robot, designed to bring care, conversation, and joy to the people who need it most. Backed by tier-1 investors and with customers already deploying Abi across aged care and healthcare, we're scaling fast, and we're doing it with an engineering-first culture that's obsessed with pushing the limits of what's possible.

This is a rare moment to join: we're post-technical validation, pre-ubiquity, and building out the team that will take Abi from early access to global scale.

Your Role in the Action

As a Principal Electronics Engineer at Andromeda Robotics, you'll be the technical lead for Abi's entire electrical system. You won't just design the system; you'll architect its core from the ground up, setting the direction for sensor fusion, power architecture, and embedded control across multiple generations of the product. You'll work hands-on to tackle the most difficult technical challenges; from fundamental architecture decisions to high-stakes, system-level validation.

You'll be the key technical voice collaborating with mechanical, software, and design teams, ensuring seamless, high-reliability systems that power Abi's ability to connect with people in deeply human ways. You'll champion rigorous engineering standards, mentor a team of engineers, and set the technical vision for hardware at Andromeda. By combining first-principles thinking with detail-obsessed craftsmanship, you'll help make Abi not just technically world-class, but emotionally alive.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Architect and deliver the production-ready electrical architecture, from concept through to manufacturing, ensuring Abi's hardware is robust, scalable, and emotionally expressive.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance across multiple projects, collaborating closely with mechanical, software, and industrial design teams to seamlessly integrate sensors, power systems, and embedded platforms.
  • Own the system-level design, defining best-in-class practices for schematic and PCB layout (Altium or equivalent) with a focus on signal integrity, power integrity, and DFM across the entire product.
  • Conduct deep-dive circuit analysis and debugging on the most complex, high-stakes system issues to refine Abi's performance and prepare her for real-world challenges.
  • Drive the transition to volume manufacturing, including setting up robust QA, compliance, and supplier qualification processes to ensure excellence at scale.
  • Provide foundational support and expertise in embedded firmware (C, Rust, or equivalent) to bring up complex systems and enable real-time responsiveness.
  • Champion technical excellence across the team, leading architectural reviews and mentoring senior and junior engineers alike, building a culture of creativity and continuous improvement.

Requirements
What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's/Master's/PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 10+ years of professional electronics engineering experience (beyond internships or co-ops), with a proven track record of architecting and delivering complex, high-volume products.
  • Proficiency with Altium (or equivalent) for schematic and PCB layout, demonstrating a meticulous approach to signal integrity, grounding, and manufacturability on high-speed and high-density designs.
  • Comprehensive hands-on experience in circuit analysis, debugging, and system-level validation, using oscilloscopes, power supplies, and simulation tools (e.g., LTspice) to resolve the most challenging technical issues.
  • In-depth understanding of embedded programming (C, Rust, or equivalent), with the ability to bridge the gap between hardware and firmware development.
  • In-depth understanding of short-circuit protection, switching power supplies, motors, and innovative power management methods for battery-driven and high-current systems.
  • Proven track record of collaborating effectively with mechanical and industrial designers on seamless system integration, with a working knowledge of mechanical CAD (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • Experience in leading technical projects, supporting manufacturing and supply chain processes, and driving design-for-manufacturability and compliance standards for high-volume production.
  • A passion for mentoring and leading engineering teams, championing rigorous design reviews, and fostering an environment of continuous learning and innovation.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge in camera electronics, MIPI interfaces, or advanced high-speed protocols (PCIe Gen4/5, USB4, 10G Ethernet).
  • Experience designing compact boards (HDI, flex, rigid-flex) and leading mechanical/electrical integration on complex form-factor constrained systems.
  • Familiarity with Python, C++, or MATLAB for automation and testing, bringing new levels of refinement to system validation and performance optimization.
  • A love of tinkering with hardware in your free time, pushing boundaries on personal projects that spark new ideas and breakthroughs.

Why Join Us

  • You'll be one of the early builders behind a product the world has never seen before
  • You'll work on a deeply cross-functional team that blends robotics, AI, and design into one magical product
  • You'll own real hardware end-to-end, not just one slice of a larger machine
  • You'll have the autonomy to move fast, the backing of top-tier investors, and the opportunity to do the best work of your career

The salary for this position may vary depending on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional benefits or components based on the specific role. Details will be provided if an employment offer is made.

If you're excited about this role but don't meet every requirement, that's okay, we encourage you to apply. At Andromeda Robotics, we celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. Let's build the future together.
