Marine Structures is Australia's largest pontoon builder, with a growth trajectory to build the best marine structures in Australia. Our products range from residential leisure pontoons and decks to state government ferry terminals, marinas, walk/cycleways, boardwalks, and floating walkway infrastructure.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our team. Working directly with the Head of Sales, the ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced skills in cost estimation, budgeting, contract risk and financial analysis in the marine industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Using your experience in marine estimating, prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for projects, covering materials, labour, logistics, equipment, subcontracted works packages and other relevant expenses
  • Lead tender review, site visits and provide expertise in identifying cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements, contract risk and strategic tender bids
  • Analyse project documents, such as drawings, specifications, and project scopes, to determine all requirements
  • Collaborate with project managers, salespeople, engineers to gather and validate all relevant project information to build BOQ's, take-offs and first-principles of cost models
  • Develop comprehensive project cost strategies and risk assessments
  • Estimate manufacturing workflows (BOM's, routings, labour standards, make-vs-buy)
  • Manage subcontractor and supplier relationships, obtaining quotes and ensuring cost accuracy
  • Maintain a database of historical data, pricing trends, and industry benchmarks to inform future estimates

Qualifications

  • 7 - 12 years of experience in estimating and pre-contracts, in a marine environment
  • Advanced excel and estimating skills
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders while working under pressure
  • Familiarity with AS3962, AS4997, AS1657 and AS1428.1/2
  • Have a killer instinct in developing cost-effective design and construction solutions.
