Are you a skilled power station operator looking for your next challenge?
We are seeking experienced Power Station Operators with a proven background in power generation to come and work at GPS. You will be responsible for monitoring, operating, and optimising plant equipment to ensure maximum efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance.
NRG Gladstone Operating Services Pty Ltd (NRGGOS), a wholly owned subsidiary of NRG Energy Inc operates and maintains the 6 unit, 1680MW Gladstone Power Station Queensland's largest single power station. NRGGOS operates the Station in a safe, reliable, responsible, and sustainable manner and we achieve this through the skills, knowledge, experience, innovation, and drive of our people.
With this opportunity, there will be a period of training provided for plant familiarisation for successful candidates. Initially, this position will be worked as a 36.25-hour week on a 9-day fortnight basis, however there will be periods within the training program where trainees will work a 12-hour shift roster.
As the training is undertaken as a structured program it will involve:
- On the job training of all operational aspects of the GPS Generating plant.
- Learning about operation, start up and shutdown of generating and auxiliary plant to ensure generation targets are achieved.
- Experiencing how to support Shift Operations, Maintenance and Projects in coordination and isolation of equipment for plant outages.
- On the job training to be able to monitor, fault-find and take corrective action to maximise operational performance.
- Working safely within the boundaries of the NRG Safety System and Environmental Procedures and Policies.
- Working 12-hour shift rosters as required.
The successful applicant will have:
- Previous experience in coal power station operations and hold current Advanced Boiler Operator (BA) and Turbine Operator (TO) as required by the Queensland Workplace Health and Safety Regulations.
- Certificate IV in Electricity Supply Industry Generation (Operations) is desirable but not essential.
- Can demonstrate a strong technical knowledge of power generation systems and processes.
- Applicants must be career focused, motivated and display a safety-first team-oriented approach to work.
- Experience with Permit to Work and complex isolations will be highly regarded.
- A positive attitude with demonstrated ability to work under pressure, solve problems and work in an organised manner within a small team.
- The ability to communicate effectively, have a genuine commitment and practical approach to health, safety and environmental principles are considered important personal attributes for the role.
- Ability to work in a shift-based roster environment
