Working from our facility at Melbourne Airport, you will become part of a strong multi-cultural team with approximately 21 experienced colleagues reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager within one of the world's leading Aircraft Wheel Maintenance Repair Organisations (MRO) that is approved by the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority - CASA and the European Aviation Safety Authority - EASA.

The MRO has been in operation for almost 10 years and currently provides aircraft wheel component maintenance to one of Australia's largest commercial airlines. We are always expanding with our popular Aircraft Wheel and Brake Programs offered buy TP Aerospace globally. You will play a crucial role in this development.

This is a senior management role within a small management team based in Australia and an integral part of the production process. People skills are a must as you shall guide, mentor and assist the team in meeting daily / weekly / monthly production targets whilst optimising day-to-day activities and minimising the costs.

Aviation Maintenance knowledge and operational skills, People Skills, Financial Management Skills and sound LEAN knowledge are a requirement of this role. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for ensuring that the conduct of all maintenance is in compliance with the CASA and EASA Part 145 regulations and the company MOE and procedures. You shall have the skills and regulatory knowledge to obtain approval by CASA and EASA as a Form 4 Approved Maintenance Manager.

There are several TP Aerospace Global initiatives that you will become involved in and allow you to share your experience whilst learning from others and becoming a part of the global TP Aerospace team. In 2025 we have been embarking on a 5S, GEMBA and Visualisation journey for which you will be the lead driver and mentor to bring these LEAN improvements into the business unit.

Skills and Competencies required -

Operational

  • Ensure the availability of sufficient competent personnel to plan, perform, supervise, inspect and certify the work being performed.
  • Notify the Accountable Manager whenever deficiencies emerge which require his attention in respect of finance and the acceptability of standards.
  • Ensure satisfactory completion and certification of all work required by contracted Operators/Customers, in accordance with the work specification (Work Order and approved MOE and operating procedures).
  • Ensure that staff comply with the requirements of the CASA / EASA Part 145 regulations, the company Maintenance Organisation Expositions (MOE's), TP Aerospace Technics procedures and standards and applicable OHS regulations when carrying out maintenance.
  • Ensure that all maintenance is correctly certified and that records of maintenance carried out are retained safely and securely for the statutory period.
  • Ensure that the quality standards of all work accomplished by staff in the maintenance department comply with the quality management procedures, the company MOE's and the CASA / EASA Part 145 regulations.
  • Ensure suitable tools, equipment, materials and facilities are available to perform the work undertaken.
  • Ensure that all calibrated tooling is inspected, serviced and calibrated as per the periodic calibration requirements. Maintain the calibration database in Quantum Control.
  • Ensure the availability and embodiment of all necessary Airworthiness Data from CASA / EASA and Approved Design Data from the Component Manufacturers / Approved Organisations as appropriate to the tasks being performed.
  • In conjunction with the Quality, Safety and Compliance Monitoring Manager ensure the competence of all personnel engaged in maintenance by establishing a Programme of Training and Continuation Training using: -

  • Internal and External sources and / or On-the-Job Instruction Training and Evaluation,

  • Examination/Testing as necessary, and keeping a record of all training and experience of maintenance/repair-related personnel.
  • Strategically plan production to meet delivery and schedule requirements.
  • Control and administer all production workshop departments under the direction of the Accountable Manager.
  • Report and recommend required training requirements of staff and report any indiscretions or problems with quality of work and/or discipline to the Accountable Manager.
  • Review with the Accountable Manager on an on-going basis all departmental operating procedures.
  • Respond to quality deficiencies that arise from independent quality and safety audits.
  • Set daily/weekly/monthly objectives and communicate them to employees.
  • Organise workflow by assigning responsibilities and preparing schedules.
  • Ensure the safe use of equipment.
  • Check production output on daily base according to specifications and update daily reports.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results.
  • Submit reports on performance and progress to the Accountable Manager.
  • Identify issues in efficiency and suggest improvements.
  • Enforce strict safety guidelines and company standards.

Strategy & Development

  • Oversee mentor and coach all direct report staff.
  • Identify issues in efficiency and suggest improvements to the Accountable Manager.
  • Train new employees on how to safely use machinery and follow procedures.

People management

  • Vacation planning as per company guidelines.
  • Consistently promote high standards and a healthy work environment within the team though personal example and on-going communication with team members.
  • Ensure that company policies and guidelines are complied with throughout the team.
  • Ensure that the department follows all safety procedures.
  • Undertake corrective action if employees fail to comply with company standards, follow work procedures or otherwise oppose a safe and healthy work environment.

Competencies

  • The Maintenance Manager will have held a leadership position/s for two years in a CASA / EASA Part 145 maintenance / repair activity or equivalent.
  • Degree in a technical, engineering or relevant field will be an advantage.
  • The Maintenance Manager will have aeronautical product / aircraft maintenance experience of more than two years showing competency to hold the responsible manager position.
  • Good knowledge of IT systems, including MS Office and Quantum Control.
  • In depth knowledge of maintenance procedures and the CASA / EASA Part 145 regulations.
  • Proven role as a responsible employee in aeronautical product / aircraft maintenance activities.
  • Working knowledge of LEAN initiatives such as 5S, GEMBA and Visualisation.

Social/Personal Competencies

  • Proven experience as Maintenance Manager / Production Supervisor or similar role.
  • Experience in using various types of production machinery and tools.
  • Organisational and leadership abilities.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with a results-driven approach.
  • Problem-solving skills.
