Us Truss is a leading Melbourne-based manufacturer specialising in the design and production of high-quality timber wall frames and roof trusses for the construction industry. We are committed to innovation and efficiency, and we are now seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our in-house team to drive the development of our critical business systems.

About the Role:

As our in-house Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, modifying, and supporting the software applications and systems that power our business. This role is integral to our operations, focusing on enhancing our proprietary design software, automating manufacturing processes, and optimising our workflow from client quotation through to production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse system program needs by consulting with our design, engineering, and production teams to translate operational requirements into technical specifications.
  • Designs and implements scalable software architectures to address complex technical challenges while ensuring alignment with specified functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Write, test, and maintain clean and efficient program code for our in-house systems, including our quoting engine, production scheduling software, and inventory management platform.
  • Test, debug, and diagnose errors and faults within our software to ensure our applications perform to specification and maintain the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Provide expertise in developing proposals and strategies for software design activities, including recommending upgrades and new technologies to improve efficiency and capability.
  • Develops, tests, and debugs code to ensure optimal performance, efficiency, and compliance with industry-recognized quality standards.
  • Establishes and maintains software development processes and tools, fostering consistency, automation, and productivity across the development lifecycle.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and mitigates technical risks, ensuring robust and secure software delivery throughout the development process.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams (e.g., DevOps, QA, Product Management) to integrate software solutions into broader system architectures and operational environments.
  • Authors comprehensive documentation, including software designs, technical workflows, and user manuals, to support developer onboarding, stakeholder understanding, and end-user adoption.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • A bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Alternatively, a minimum of five years of relevant work experience may be considered in place of a formal qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience in software development, with proficiency in relevant programming languages.
  • Experience with software development in a manufacturing, engineering, or construction environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with non-technical teams.

Salary:

An annual salary of AUD $80,000 plus statutory superannuation.
