Head Teacher Science

Menai High School is a comprehensive, co-educational high school located in Illawong, Sutherland Shire on the southern outskirts of Sydney region with an enrolment of 1,061 students in 2025. The student population is comprised of approximately 35% LBOTE, 13% EALD and 34 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Menai High School offers an extensive curriculum with a focus on academic excellence, student welfare and extra-curricular programs. Areas of focus for the school plan are the explicit teaching of literacy and numeracy across the school, student learning culture and community engagement. Our students are highly motivated learners who excel academically across the curriculum. Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

1. Proven ability to lead a science faculty in implementing all syllabuses, embedding high-quality teaching, assessment, and differentiation to engage students from a variety of backgrounds, including Indigenous students, and all ability levels.

2. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish positive and respectful relationships with students, staff, including executive staff, and families.

3. Demonstrated ability or potential to effectively lead and manage science disciplines, along with diverse faculty areas encompassing Marine Studies and Agriculture.

4. Demonstrated ability to manage financial resources, assets, and staff performance effectively.

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
