Position summary

The Accountant will assist the CEO deliver successful financial outcomes in an accurate and timely manner
through the provision of excellent customer service whilst complying with organisational policies and procedures
and legislative requirements.

The Accountant will be responsible for ensuring day-to-day financial management of the business is sound,
preparing accurate and timely financial and management reports, whilst supporting the senior management
team in regards to preparing and managing budgets.

This position is responsible for the accuracy, integrity, maintenance, and improvement of the financial systems
and processes.

Selection criteria

Essential:

  • Proven ability to apply high ethical standards and represent MTHCS in a professional manner.
  • Bachelor of Accounting or equivalent.
  • Excellent telephone/communication skills.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop policies and procedures.
  • Advanced budget management skills.
  • A knowledge of document and data control.
  • Broad computer knowledge to include Microsoft Office components.
  • Current Driver's Licence.
  • Current Police Check.

Key responsibilities

Supervision of computer processing and maintenance of computer systems:

  • The supervision of data input prepared by clerical staff.
  • Preparation of standing journal entries.
  • Supervising the processing of creditors cheques.

Maintenance of the General Ledger to Trial Balance:

  • Certification of reconciliations of all assets and liability accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Reconciliation of creditors and bank accounts with the general ledger.
  • Assist clerical staff with accounts related problems.
  • Certify adjustment to inpatient debtor accounts.

Maintenance of Organisational and Departmental Budget Reports:

  • Preparation of annual budgets in conjunction with the Executive.
  • Preparation of monthly operating reports for the Health Service Board of Directors.
  • Preparation of monthly/annual returns for the Department of Health and Human Services.
  • End of year processing of all Health Service accounts.

Business Planning:

  • Assist the Executive in business plans, preparation of projects, departmental financial activity reports.
  • Assistance in performing an annual budget and performance of SWOT analysis.
  • Notifying Executive of any possible budgeting variation as soon as practicable.
  • Monitoring budgeting control of department, organisational budgeting issues.

Management:

  • Contributes to planning processes under direction from the Executive.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to gain co-operation and assistance from customers and other staff.
  • Ability to identify, discuss and resolve problems.
  • High level of overall personal presentation.
  • Other duties as directed.

Section 21 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act 2004, requires an Employer to provide and maintain, so far as is reasonable and practicable, a safe workplace for all employees and ensure that no employee is placed at risk of injury while performing
the duties and responsibilities required by their position.

To comply with this obligation, MTHCS requires all candidates/employees to have the mental and physical capacity to safely perform the inherent requirements of the position they are applying for (or have been appointed to).

If a risk is identified and fitness to safely perform the duties of the position needs to be determined, MTHCS with the agreement of the candidate/employee, will arrange an independent medical assessment to determine capacity to safely perform the inherent
requirements of the position to minimise the risk of injury or aggravation of any pre-existing condition the candidate/employee may have.
