Your new role

As Policy Manager, you will play an integral role in advancing the Green Building Council of Australia's advocacy agenda. You will be part of a small, highly skilled policy team where your research, analysis and stakeholder engagement directly contribute to shaping outcomes for government, industry and the community.

Your work will cover some of Australia's most pressing challenges, including decarbonisation, the energy transition, housing, infrastructure and resilience. You will prepare well-evidenced submissions and policy papers, contribute to thought leadership, and represent GBCA in consultations and forums with key stakeholders.

You will report to the Head of Policy and collaborate closely with colleagues across the Green Building Council. This role is well-suited to a capable policy professional with strong experience who values collaboration, enjoys variety, and is motivated by making a tangible impact through their work.

The position will ideally be based in our Melbourne office, with hybrid working available. Candidates from other locations with strong policy experience in the built environment may also be considered. Monthly interstate travel will be required. Full Australian working rights are essential.

Your new responsibilities
  • Research and analyse emerging issues, government priorities and regulatory reforms to inform GBCA's policy positions
  • Prepare submissions, policy documents, briefing papers and reports in collaboration with industry partners and stakeholders
  • Represent GBCA in consultations, meetings and webinars with government departments, agencies and advisors
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry associations, government contacts, advocacy partners and stakeholder groups to broaden GBCA's influence
  • Share information and insights across GBCA to support communication, knowledge sharing and organisational priorities, including Green Star for social infrastructure.
Your skills and experience
  • Minimum of five years' experience in policy development, advocacy, or government relations roles.
  • Demonstrated experience working within or closely with the built environment sector.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality policy documents, submissions, reports and presentations.
  • Sound knowledge of the Australian system of government at Federal, State and Local levels.
  • Proven ability to engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including government agencies, industry associations and community groups.
  • Well-developed research and analytical skills to support evidence-based policy development.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively across different teams.
