About the Opportunity

This role is responsible for the preparation and implementation of management plans and programs relating to land management, including Palmerston Escarpment, natural and constructed water bodies and conservation land, it supports environmental planning and current programs including the implementation of the closed landfill and lake management plans, in addition to support across open space team activities.

Working within the Environment team, the Land Conservation Officer is responsible for supporting a range of programs and services that contribute to the delivery of the City of Palmerston Community Plan including:

  • Sustainable land management.
  • Conservation planning.
  • Lake management.
  • Program engagement and education with community.

We are looking for a person with the following

  • Diploma qualifications in Conservation and Land Management, or equivalent.
  • Extensive practical experience and knowledge in the management of conservation or rehabilitation of land.
  • Experience in the preparation and implementation of management plans and reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively collaborate with internally and with our community in the effective delivery of projects.
  • Excellent customer service skills with experience in handling complex and sometimes difficult customer situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a member of a team to deliver key projects and deliverables within deadlines, on budget and of a high quality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) and build rapport across the organisation and within community.
  • Well-developed organisational, prioritisation and time management skills.
  • Sound understanding of occupational health and safety workplace procedures.
