Project Engineer – Water & Civil Infrastructure

Location: Western Sydney (or Greater Sydney area)

Fusion People are working with a civil contracting firm specialising in water supply, wastewater, drainage, and civil works. With over 15 years of experience, they deliver turnkey infrastructure projects across Greater Sydney, operating under full Sydney Water accreditation and with ISO‑accredited quality systems. From pipelines and trunk mains to large‑scale infrastructure and civil sites, managing plant, equipment, and all aspects of project delivery.

The Role As Project Engineer, you will play a key technical and coordination role in delivering water, wastewater, and drainage infrastructure projects. You will work closely with the Project Manager, site teams, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure quality, safety, cost, and schedule targets are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, scheduling and executing civil & water/wastewater/drainage projects from initial scope through to handover.
  • Prepare engineering designs, drawings / reviews (including review of consultant drawings), detailed construction documentation and specifications.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering, procurement, survey, safety, and site teams to ensure all project phases are aligned.
  • Manage subcontractors & suppliers: tendering, evaluating bids, ensuring compliance and performance.
  • Monitor and report on project costs, progress, risks, and variations. Forecast and track budgets.
  • Conduct site inspections and quality control to ensure work meets relevant standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements (Sydney Water, ISO etc.).
  • Ensure all works are conducted in line with safety, environmental and WHS legislative requirements.
  • Assist in resolving technical / construction issues on site.
  • Maintain accurate documentation: progress reports, drawings revisions, change orders, etc.

Requirements

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3‑5 years' experience in civil infrastructure / water / wastewater / drainage – ideally in Sydney.
  • Strong knowledge of water and wastewater infrastructure systems, pipes, underground services, trenches, civil earthworks etc.
  • Familiarity with Sydney Water accreditation / standards, local regulations, specifications.
  • Experience in project planning, estimating, cost control, and contract management.
  • Good technical drawing / CAD skills; ability to read and interpret engineering plans.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
  • Proactive and able to work both in the field (site) and the office.
