Latrobe Regional Health (LRH) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Anaesthetics to lead our Anaesthetics Department within the Surgical and Perioperative Services Division.
As a key senior leader, you will provide strategic direction, clinical leadership, and operational oversight to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centred anaesthetic services. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on service development, workforce sustainability, and the promotion of excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research across Gippsland.
About the Role
The Director of Anaesthetics will:
- Lead the Anaesthetics Department, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Provide expert clinical leadership to ensure high-quality, evidence-based, and integrated anaesthetic services.
- Drive strategic initiatives that strengthen service delivery, workforce planning, and departmental performance.
- Build strong multidisciplinary relationships to support patient-centred care and organisational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall clinical leadership and direction for the Anaesthetics Department.
- Establish and maintain clinical standards, policies, and protocols in line with best practice.
- Lead and manage departmental operations including workforce planning, rostering, and resource allocation.
- Support professional development, education, and training of junior doctors, registrars, and medical students.
- Foster a strong research and innovation culture within the department.
- Collaborate with other clinical services to ensure effective, multidisciplinary care.
- Provide expert advice to the Chief Medical Officer and Executive Leadership on anaesthetic services.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, accreditation standards, and organisational policies.
About you
Ideal candidates for this role will have:
- MBBS (or equivalent), registration with the Medical Practitioners Board of Australia, and Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA).
- Demonstrated clinical expertise and leadership within anaesthetics.
- Excellent communication skills with a collaborative and respectful approach.
- Strong ability to lead change, manage teams, and drive service improvements.
- A commitment to education, research, and continuous professional development.
