ALLIED HEALTH ASSISTANT: LIFE SKILLS 4 KIDS.
CASUAL POSITION: Tuncurry and Taree.
- Are you experienced in working with, supporting and playing with children of all ages?
- Are you excited by responsibility, working independently and having a big impact on the lives of local families?
- Would you like to join a small growing allied health business?
We are hiring a part time Therapy Assistant (34 hours per week/ 4 days a week Monday to Thursday) to join our Allied Health Team in Taree and Tuncurry with the potential to increase to full time.
We are looking for a new team member to join our growing early intervention and occupational therapy team. We are looking for someone who is not only able to relate to, play and support children of all ages, but also someone who is excited by responsibility, working independently within the therapy assistant role and scope, and participating in driving the success of supporting the children and families that we work with.
This is an extremely exciting opportunity for someone interested in a diverse role delivering therapy programs with children and families as directed by our occupational therapist and early childhood teachers to support inclusion.
About the Business
We are a private Occupational Therapy and Early Intervention service focused on helping children achieve their full potential by emphasising our core values of excellence, respect, transparency and lifelong learning.
Our team offers tailored services for developmental, sensory, emotional, and motor skill challenges, fostering a motivating work environment for professionals to grow while making a profound impact.
By dedicating substantial resources to our learning, we ensure that our team brings up-to-date, evidence-based practices to the children and families we serve. Our director, Deb Hopper is a self-confessed course junkie who also mentors Occupational Therapists Australia-wide.
We collaborate closely with our local families to foster the development of practical life skills that are meaningful to them.
About this exciting role
This role provides a huge amount of variety in your day-to-day, allowing you to engage in diverse tasks, such as assisting in therapy sessions, implementing therapy plans, and supporting children and families in achieving their goals (while following the occupational therapy or education programs that are written for you in the therapy plans).
You'll play a crucial role in helping children with developmental delays, sensory issues, and emotional regulation challenges to improve their overall well-being and reach their full potential.
Specifically, you will be:
- Delivering therapy programs to children and families as directed by the allied health professional or educators, as well as preparing and organising therapy materials, tools and equipment to deliver an effective and engaging session for children with various needs.
- Keeping up-to-date and accurate records of client's progress during therapy sessions and updating our central team system.
- Communicating clearly and effectively with clients, families, and your team members.
- Be an active team player, contributing to the team's goals and fostering a supportive work atmosphere by bringing your energy and enthusiasm to the team
- Stay informed and up-to-date by completing required training and continuing education in your field.
- Adhere to organisational policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, and follow ethical practices and relevant regulations.
- Demonstrate resourcefulness and adaptability in tackling challenges and making appropriate decisions in a timely and can-do manner.
- Create and maintain a clean, well-organised, and welcoming therapy space for clients and their families to enjoy a positive experience and adhere to cleaning expectations.
More about YOU
You'll have 5+ years of experience working with children in a childcare, school, allied health OR another relevant role where you've built experience, understanding and passion for supporting children to thrive
You'll have a current Working With Children Check, and you'll be based at both our Tuncurry and Taree bases, and outreaching to schools, preschools and rural areas, so you'll need a current driver's licence and a car available to use for work (reimbursements apply).
Because of the travel and variety of work (children of different age groups and different locations), you need to have
- A strong ability to learn quickly and adapt to a fast-changing exciting environment
- A strong ability to work on your own, set yourself goals, keep yourself motivated but know when you need help and to ask for it
- A strong ability to work to deadlines, make decisions, get things done, hold yourself accountable, report your progress and follow yourself and others up.
- Extremely high attention to detail for non-client work, as we don't have time to double check your work. You can keep the big picture in mind and prioritise and be flexible to meet work demands.
- Amazing organisational skills, and be able to use and learn new technology and systems as you are trained in your new position.
- A good understanding of tech and an ability to problem-solve when you get stuck, or keep going on different tasks until you are able to get further support.
- You have excellent language skills, including written and verbal communication skill
- You can ideally start mid July, 2023.
In exchange for your hard work and amazing skills you'll enjoy a workplace that offers you the opportunity to gain valuable experience and knowledge while working closely with experienced occupational therapists. You'll be working in a team-oriented atmosphere where collaboration and professional growth are encouraged.
Within the therapy program created by your supervising therapist, you'll be able to show your responsibility and create autonomy in your role from day to day.
You'll work with a communicative leader with clear expectations and a true desire to make a difference in the world. We love our work, and think of it as a privilege and joy, rather than a job (and you'll be empowered to do the same).
