Our Opportunity
The Policy & Systemic Issues Officer is responsible for responding to regulatory and industry developments and contributing to EWON's policy positions in response to environmental changes.
The role involves researching and preparing submissions, reports, and other public-facing documents to identify gaps in consumer protections and support improved outcomes for energy and water consumers.
The Officer works closely with the Dispute Resolution team to identify systemic issues arising from customer complaints, liaise with energy and water providers, and engage with regulators when required. The role also provides information and training to EWON staff on relevant policy and regulatory changes.
Key Accountabilities
- Assist EWON in responding to regulatory and industry developments by preparing submissions and reports.
- Review, report and recommend changes to EWON Policy positions.
- Identify opportunities for policy development and research.
- Identify and manage systemic and topical issues by implementing associated documentation and processes.
- Ensure EWON staff are kept up to date with industry and regulatory developments and policy changes.
- Stakeholder relations management, including relevant government, regulator, consumer organisations, other ombudsman and EWON member contacts.
Required Skills and Experience
Essential
- Excellent research and writing skills
- Experience preparing submissions or similar documents
- Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret complex information with a high attention to detail
- Experience developing clear information to other staff in relation to a policy area, preferably involving regulation and legislative review
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Effective computer literacy with intermediate level of skills in Microsoft Office applications and statistical analysis (Excel).
Desirable
- Knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, the electricity, gas and water sectors and regulatory/legislative framework.
