Risk Consultant

Brady Heywood is a consultancy that helps organisations in high-hazard industries achieve predictable and safe operational performance.
We are looking for someone with experience working in a high-hazard industry to join our team and help our clients improve the management of their operational risks.
You don't need previous experience working in risk or health and safety. You might have worked in operational roles and want to move into risk management. What matters most is your critical thinking, communication skills, and desire to learn.
What You'll Do
You will work alongside our experienced team, assisting organisations to improve the effectiveness of their risk management systems.
Your role will include:
- Analysing the effectiveness of our clients' risk management systems, particularly from a systems thinking perspective.
- Facilitating workshops to identify the client's key risks and how they are managed.
- Engaging directly with clients' technical experts.
- Developing bespoke risk management tools (e.g., in-field verification checklists, incident reporting systems, Power BI dashboards).
- Reviewing the effectiveness of those risk management tools in practice.
- Synthesising and presenting the team's findings.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with experience working in a high-hazard industry who is looking to become a risk management consultant to help our clients improve the management of their operational risks.
You will be a good fit for this role if you:
- Hold a bachelor's degree (or higher).
- Have had a minimum of 3 years of experience working in an organisation in a high-hazard industry, e.g., chemical processing, heavy industry, transport, or mining.
- Value a systems thinking approach to improving organisational effectiveness, e.g., you consider the impact of our work in the wider context of a client's operations.
- Are willing to travel to client sites regularly.
- Are an open-minded thinker – you're comfortable with uncertainty, and don't believe that all problems have a clear starting point, ending point or a clear process to get there.
- Are outcome-focused – you prefer to constantly assess whether our work will achieve the required outcome, rather than blindly following a process.
- Are an adaptable problem solver – you're willing to change course when something isn't working, and can figure out how to keep progressing.
- Are interested in system effectiveness – you're curious about how safety and risk are managed effectively, and you want to understand how and why systems fail.
- Are a good communicator – you listen, ask insightful questions and can articulate a client's view back to them.
- Can facilitate discussion – you can facilitate productive discussions between people with opposing viewpoints.
- Understand that organisational change can be confronting – you are sensitive to how other people feel and the pressures they are under.
- Can write documents clearly – you're able to turn technical jargon into simple English.
- Can be based in our Brisbane office or at home, and are willing to travel to client sites in Australia and overseas as required.
- Can work either 5 days a week or 4 days a week (Monday-Thursday).
Why Work With Us?
We're a small, close-knit team who are committed to helping organisations in high-hazard industries manage their operational risk.
As part of our team:
- You'll contribute to projects in Australia and abroad that have a real impact on safety, performance, and organisational learning.
- You'll get to work directly with clients on a diverse range of projects. Because we tailor our approach to our clients' needs, no two jobs are ever the same.
- You'll be able to grow and develop your knowledge and skills through hands-on experience and self-directed learning.
