Title:

Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist

Company:

Townsville Hospital and Health Service (HHS)

Location

The Opportunity

Step into one of Queensland's largest and busiest Emergency Departments, where your expertise will shape care for over 100,000 patients annually — including 20% paediatric presentations in our dedicated 12-bed paediatric area. With a 30% admission rate and 95% ambulance off-stretcher compliance, Townsville University Hospital (TUH) ED is a high-performing, high-impact environment.

As a TUH ED Staff Specialist, you'll work across adult and paediatric zones, the short stay unit, and contribute to aeromedical retrieval coordination for North Queensland. You'll also play a key role in the Frailty Intervention Team, delivering senior emergency outreach to geriatric patients in residential aged care facilities.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver expert clinical care across a mixed adult and paediatric ED

  • Provide consultation and advice to patients, families, and colleagues

  • Participate in aeromedical coordination for the Northern Zone (credentialing required)

  • Engage in outreach through the Frailty Intervention Team

  • Lead and contribute to quality improvement, peer review, and audit

  • Maintain CPD and work within your awarded Scope of Clinical Practice

  • Ensure high-quality clinical documentation and mentor junior medical staff

What's on Offer?

We know exceptional clinicians deserve exceptional support. That's why we offer a generous and comprehensive remuneration package designed to reward your expertise and commitment:

  • Attraction and Retention Incentive Allowance – 50% of base salary

  • Regional and Rural Attraction Allowance – 5% of base salary (Palm Island: 10%)

  • Motor Vehicle Allowance – Between $21,000 and $25,500 per annum

  • Professional Development Allowance – $21,500 per annum + 3.6 weeks of professional development leave

  • Emergency Department Specialist Allowance of 25% base salary.

  • On-call and shift allowances (if applicable)

  • Attractive salary sacrificing options

  • Generous leave entitlements

  • Flexible Work Options:

  • Permanent Part-Time: 40 hours per fortnight

  • Temporary Part-Time: 27 Oct 2025 to 10 May 2026, 40 hours per fortnight

This is more than just a job — it's a chance to thrive in a high-performing emergency department while enjoying the lifestyle and rewards of regional Queensland.

Role Requirements

  • Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or equivalent

  • Possession of a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a registered tertiary institution

  • Current registration (or eligibility) with AHPRA to practise emergency medicine
