About the Role
The Health Promotion Officer leads the design and delivery of local cancer awareness campaigns, educational programs, and health promotion initiatives for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This role is part of the Improving First Nations Cancer Outcomes Program, focused on increasing cancer screening and prevention, adapting resources for local context, and ensuring cultural safety in all activities. The officer will work closely with SAWCAN, NACCHO, and other partner organisations.
Key responsibilities include:
• Design, develop, and evaluate community-specific cancer awareness campaigns and resources.
• Roll out regional health promotion materials, adapting them for local relevance.
• Facilitate, and participate in, education events, workshops, and social media engagement to increase awareness, screening, and health outcomes.
• Build strong partnerships with communities, families, and key stakeholders.
• Collect data, document lived experiences, and contribute to regional evaluation and advocacy.
• Provide practical assistance for community members navigating the cancer journey.
• Support team operations and program priorities flexibly as community needs evolve.
This role requires someone who is proactive, culturally responsive, and deeply aligned with our mission to support First Nations health outcomes.
About You
To thrive in this position, we are looking for candidates who can meet the following criteria:
• Qualification(s) and/or experience in marketing, communications or similar.
• Experience in planning, managing and promoting events and initiatives that engages community and raises awareness.
• Experience in working with, or supporting, Aboriginal communities is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Demonstrated program evaluation, reporting, and data collection skills.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills, with experience in managing social media accounts and content.
• National Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
• DHS Working with Children Check (WWCC) (or willingness to obtain)
• DHS Aged Care Screening (or willingness to obtain)
• Valid Driver Licence (Class C or equivalent).
