About the Role:

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people? The Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council is seeking a dynamic and committed Manager Child and Youth Engagement to deliver high-quality services and programs for Kowanyama's children and youth, in line with Council's Strategic Plan and funding guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a year-round calendar of sport, recreation, and creative activities for children and youth.
  • Coordinate the Playgroup Program and foster relationships with other service providers.
  • Develop and implement an aquatics program for the local swimming pool.
  • Create safe spaces and a youth hub for rest, health checks, and homework help.
  • Lead and supervise a high-performing, outcome-focused team.
  • Provide staff support, training, and development opportunities.
  • Chaperone sporting teams to inter-community carnivals as required.
  • Seek additional funding opportunities and ensure timely completion of funding performance reports.
  • Model and promote occupational health and safety, risk management, equity, and inclusion.

  • Driver's Licence
  • First Aid Certificate with CPR
  • Current Police Check

Located in Western Cape York, Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire consists of beautiful and unique wetlands and delta mangroves in the north, extending to forest country in the central peninsula. Kowanyama is a remote Aboriginal community and home to over one thousand residents. Kowanyama means "place of many waters" in the Yir Yoront language.
