The Senior Application Engineer is responsible for providing advanced technical support across the project lifecycle, from design validation to execution. This role acts as a key liaison between engineering, project execution, and customer-facing teams, ensuring that technical deliverables meet quality, compliance, and performance standards. How you'll make an impact:
- You will conduct detailed reviews of engineering drawings (primary and secondary) and technical documentation (technical schedules, SiD, and overall documentation pertinent to the project), lead the technical scope for assigned HV projects (CBs, disconnectors, instrument transformers, GIS), ensuring delivery against specification and contract.
- You will support site activities (installation/commissioning) with timely clarifications, NCR/CCRP actions, and lessons learned; participate in FAT/SAT as needed, drive multi‑discipline design coordination, design reviews, risk/opportunity management, and variation support.
- You will participate in design review meetings with customers to validate requirements and propose optimizations, local support in drawing changes using AutoCAD, lead or support technical discussions with customers during design and execution phases, translate customer requirements into actionable engineering tasks.
- You will participate in kick-off meetings with customers and supply factories, provide ongoing engineering support to the execution team during project implementation, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise during installation or commissioning, review and support resolution of customer quality claims and raise and manage Corrective and Preventive Actions (CCRP) in collaboration with quality and project teams.
- You will ensure all engineering documentation is accurate, complete, and aligned with project specifications, ensure engineering activities comply with safety regulations, standards, contractual requirements (e.g., IEC/AS standards, customer specifications), act as the technical liaison between customers, sales, execution teams, and factories—translating requirements into clear, actionable engineering tasks and configurations.
- You will lead or support technical clarifications, design validation workshops, and customer design reviews; prepare application notes, responses to TQs, and option trade‑offs, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during execution and commissioning; provide structured inputs to quality claim and drive Corrective/Preventive Actions (CCRP), ensure that all technical documentation (drawings, datasheets, manuals, test records) is accurate, complete, and compliant with project requirements and internal controls.
- You will be responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background:
- You hold a bachelor's degree in electrical / mechanical engineering.
- More than 8years in HV primary equipment/substations (utility/EPC/OEM), covering design reviews, application engineering, and/or project technical leadership. Australian residency or Citizenship required.
- Strong command of IEC/AS standards relevant to HV apparatus (e.g., IEC 62271 family, AS3000, etc) and utility specifications; proven experience with customer and supplier interfaces. Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical scope independently (Senior Professional/P3): plans work, coaches others, solves difficult problems.
- Experience with FAT/SAT, Safety‑in‑Design (SiD), risk assessments (HAZID/HAZOP style), and CCRP/quality claims workflows. Exposure to project management practices (schedules, budgets, earned value) and tools; ability to support variation and claim preparation.
- Customer focused, ability to communicate effectively, work within a team, and follow instructions as well as be able to work individually. Based in Smithfield, NSW with hybrid office/site work as required; occasional travel for design reviews, FAT/SAT, or site inspections, attention to detail and proficient with MS Office package.
- Clear written and verbal communication for customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders; strong documentation discipline.
