Principal Adviser - HSEC Process Design

  • Play an integral role in Modern ERP Program
  • Gain exposure to more areas of the business and diversify your skillsets within Rio
  • Role could be based in Montreal, Brisbane, Perth, Singapore or SLC

About the role

Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.

We are seeking a Principal Adviser – HSEC Process Design to lead the definition and integration of HSEC business processes within the Modern ERP Program. This role combines deep expertise in HSEC business processes and management systems with strong process design and analysis skills to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions that align with business needs and enable successful technology and data integration.

This is a unique opportunity to work closely with operational stakeholders, consultants, and cross-functional teams across Rio Tinto. You'll capture current-state HSEC processes and data integrations, identify improvement opportunities, and ensure HSEC deliverables are embedded in broader program outcomes.

Reporting to the HSEC GP Workstream Lead, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading HSEC Process Design & Integration: Own the delivery of process-related workstream outputs, ensuring alignment with business needs, data structures, and technology capabilities.
  • Shape HSEC Data Structures: Collaborate with data and reporting teams to align process outputs with data models, ensuring HSEC requirements are reflected in system design and reporting frameworks.
  • Sustainability Disclosures: Collaborate with Sustainability Reporting stakeholders to ensure HSEC Sustainability Disclosure processes and requirements are understood, protected, and—where applicable—optimised as part of Modern ERP delivery.
  • Advise on Process Improvements: Collaborate with the business to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities, and provide expert input into process redesigns that support business outcomes.
  • Collaborate Across Streams: Partner with related Global Process teams to ensure HSEC processes are integrated and HSEC requirements are understood and managed.
  • Support Change Impact Identification: Contribute to identifying change impacts arising from system changes, supporting planning and stakeholder engagement.

What you'll bring

  • Practical experience applying HSEC processes in operational environments—mines, plants, or field settings—where HSEC and community outcomes matter
  • Ability to translate operational HSEC needs into scalable process and data solutions that work across diverse environments
  • Understanding of process-data-technology integration and how technology can best support the implementation of HSEC Processes.
  • Awareness of process modelling techniques and a strong grasp of HSEC Management Systems
  • Ability to navigate complex environments with structured problem-solving
  • Strong prioritisation skills to maintain delivery momentum
  • Effective stakeholder engagement across business, technical, and consulting teams
  • Awareness of change impacts to support planning and risk identification

What we offer

  • Be recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you have helped the world progress
  • A work environment where safety is always the number one priority
  • A competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience with annual incentive program
  • Comprehensive medical benefits including subsidised private health insurance for employees and immediate family
  • Attractive share ownership plan
  • Career development & education assistance to further your technical or leadership goals
  • Ongoing access to family-friendly health and medical wellbeing support
  • Exclusive employee discounts (banking, accommodation, cars, retail and more)
  • Flexible working arrangements

Where you'll be working

We are finding better ways to simplify our operations, expand our capability and improve productivity, to do this we are embarking on an exciting journey that will transition us to a modern Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform moving from an old, outdated technology (currently RTBS) to a new digitally enabled S/4 Hana and application ecosystem.

An effective RTBS is a key enabler to Best Operator, given 30-60 per cent of our frontline time is spent in the system. To deliver this change we must ensure that we work closely with each of the Product Group's (PGs) and Functions to modernise how we operate in the system. Consequently, this is not a technology led program, it is business led.

The newly created ERP Implementation Program team within the Group Finance function will bring together a variety of specialist skillsets to shape our digital future and simplify, automate, modernise and improve our ways of working globally.
