Location: Melbourne CBD | Hybrid (3 days onsite)
Salary range: Level 5 $167,754-$186,393 inc superannuation
Invisible Partners is proud to be representing VMIA.
VMIA is the Victorian Government's insurer and risk adviser, covering hospitals, schools, emergency services, cultural institutions, and infrastructure. Its purpose is clear and compelling: building a confident, resilient Victoria through world-leading harm prevention and recovery.
Working here means more than handling claims — it means influencing outcomes that strengthen the public sector, improve safety, and ensure taxpayer dollars are used thoughtfully. It's meaningful work with a real impact on the community.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Claims Specialist in VMIA's Medical Indemnity team, you'll manage a portfolio of complex, high-impact claims that often sit at the intersection of healthcare, law and community trust. Your expertise will support recovery for those affected, while influencing safer practices in Victoria's public health system.
This is a role where you'll bring both technical knowledge and emotional intelligence. You'll guide clients compassionately through the claims process, manage sensitive and often complex medical negligence or duty-of-care cases, and lead by example — sharing your expertise to mentor colleagues and lift capability across the team.
Why this role?
- Balance with purpose: step away from the relentless pace of private practice while working on claims that truly matter.
- Challenging, rewarding work: manage claims that are legally complex, socially significant, and deeply human.
- Leadership impact: shape team practice by coaching others and contributing to continuous improvement.
- Community contribution: help ensure public resources are used thoughtfully, preventing harm and improving safety.
What you'll bring
You may have a background in insurance, medical law, health services, or another complex claims environment. What matters is your ability to:
- Navigate complex medical indemnity or healthcare-related claims with sound judgement and discretion.
- Apply trauma-informed practice and resilience in challenging, sensitive cases.
- Build strong client relationships, balancing empathy with professionalism.
- Mentor and uplift others, sharing technical expertise and fostering consistency.
- Operate with integrity in a regulated, public-facing environment.
How to apply
To apply, please submit your CV and a cover letter outlining your motivation and alignment with the role. We're running a short and targeted campaign, and applications will close on Friday, 3rd October 2025.
