About the Role

Service Stream's Melbourne based Finance – Utilities division is on the lookout for a driven Finance Manager to lead the financial function of our Water Sector business across NSW, QLD, and SA.

Reporting to the Financial Controller – Power & Water, this role is both hands-on and strategic — blending day-to-day financial management with leadership, business partnering, and providing trusted advice to our operational leaders.

We're looking for someone who can balance technical excellence with influencing and leadership skills, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

What you'll do

  • Partner with contract managers and operational leaders to deliver strategic and tactical financial advice.
  • Provide high-quality reporting with a focus on balance sheet strength and cash flow management, delivering insights that drive decision making.
  • Proactively manage the balance sheet and working capital to maximise returns.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting at the contract level.
  • Oversee governance frameworks, risk management, and compliance with commercial deliverables.
  • Lead and develop a small team (~4) of finance professionals, building capability and driving efficiency.
  • Champion continuous improvement, adopting and standardising best practice processes and policies.
  • Safeguard compliance with accounting standards, ASX guidelines and principles.

About you

To thrive in this role, you'll bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance/Accounting and CPA/CA accreditation.
  • Proven leadership experience at mid–senior management level within a construction or service-focused organisation.
  • Strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of financial reporting, controls, and industry best practice.
  • Experience managing and developing small to mid-size teams.
  • Exposure to an ASX-listed environment (highly desirable).
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at every level.
