Role Highlights
As Manager Health & Safety, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight of health, safety and wellbeing strategies, frameworks, policies and initiatives. This position partners with executives, senior leaders, and external regulators to influence organisational outcomes and achieve a safer environment for employees, contractors, visitors and the community.
In this diverse, hands-on role, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead the Health & Safety Team to partner with the business to integrate health & safety initiatives and educate the broader organisation.
- Establish and maintain a best-practice safety management system (aligned with ISO 45001), driving continuous improvement through the analysis of legislative and market trends.
- Drive compliance and risk mitigation by developing and implementing plans to meet health and safety legislation and support management/supervisors in understanding and upholding their responsibilities.
- Oversee core health and safety processes, including managing inspections and audits, implementing a structured approach to hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident learning.
- Embed health and safety ownership across the organisation by working with managers and supervisors to proactively promote health and safety within their teams.
- Oversee the wellness program, including a focus on injury prevention and management, the identification and control of psychosocial hazards, the provision of EAP services and fitness for work monitoring.
- Work collaboratively with other port users including operational and nonoperational tenants, licensees, customers, regulators and the public to identify and address key health and safety requirements.

Your extensive safety experience enables you to interpret and strategically apply work health and safety standards and legislation as well as successfully apply a risk-based approach. Your effective leadership skills demonstrate your ability to lead, motivate and develop teams to ensure the achievement of strategic and operational objectives.
You'll also bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification.
- Extensive experience in managing health and safety, with a demonstrated ability to sustainably improve health and safety outcomes across organisations.
- Experience in pragmatically maintaining ISO-compliant safety management systems, frameworks, integrating financial and operational considerations in reaching decisions and positions on behalf of the business.
- Effective change management and influencing skills, especially as they relate to coaching and enabling strong health and safety culture and performance across an organisation.
- Knowledge and/or experience of the requirements of a complex safety ecosystem with varied contractual relationships, such as those found in a Port.
- An ability to interpret and strategically apply work health and safety standards and legislation including a demonstrated success in applying a risk-based approach.
- A mindset of continuous improvement, consistently seeking ways to enhance systems, processes, and outcomes while embodying our core values of Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (CARE).
