Senior Psychometric Analyst

At the NSW Department of Education, we educate and inspire lifelong learners - from early childhood, through schooling to vocational education and training.

  • Located in Parramatta with flexible working arrangements available
  • Salary $161,711 Package includes salary ($129,464 - $142,665), employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

About the role

The Senior Psychometric Analyst undertakes specialist statistical and psychometric analysis and provide advice to ensure the quality of educational assessment and measurement tools within NSW public schools.

The Senior Psychometric Analyst provides advice on appropriate psychometric theory and models to meet the needs of assessment programs and products; assists with the design and development of equating methodologies and linking, scaling and standard-setting procedures; and collaborates with assessment development teams within the department to support the construction of high-quality assessments.

About you

  • Sound understanding of the use of psychometric techniques and methodologies in educational measurement.
  • Capable of providing advice to senior officers and staff on technical aspects of the development and evaluation of assessment instruments.
  • Strong stakeholder relationship management skills
  • Recent experience in undertaking statistical analysis and modelling of large complex data sets using specialised psychometric/statistical software.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

  • Current tertiary degree (or close to completion) in a quantitative discipline, such as statistics, psychology, mathematics or educational measurement.
  • Experience using one of the following statistical software, such as R, SAS, SPSS, Stata or Matlab, or one of the psychometric applications, such as RUMM2030, ConQuest, WinSTEPS or R psychometrics packages.
  • Valid Working With Children Check clearance for paid employment
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
