About the Role
Nexus Division's Infrastructure Division is seeking two Fibre Optic Technicians to support critical infrastructure and communications projects across New South Wales.
These roles will focus on splicing, termination, and testing of fibre optic cabling systems, ensuring the highest standards of performance and reliability across rail and infrastructure environments. Successful candidates will use industry-standard fibre testing equipment, including OTDRs and light sources, to deliver accurate installations and fault resolution.
Fibre Optic Technicians will work closely with electricians and cablers to provide integrated network delivery while ensuring compliance with rail safety, HSEQ, and WHS requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform fusion splicing and termination of fibre optic cables.
- Conduct fibre testing and certification using OTDR, light source, and power meters.
- Diagnose and rectify fibre faults and performance issues in operational environments.
- Maintain accurate testing and documentation for compliance and quality assurance.
- Read and interpret fibre network drawings and splice diagrams to execute precise works.
- Collaborate with electricians and cablers to deliver integrated network infrastructure solutions.
- Ensure all works adhere to HSEQ standards, rail safety protocols, and induction requirements.
Key Requirements
Licenses & Certifications (Mandatory):
- Fibre Optic Splicing & Testing certification (or equivalent industry accreditation).
- Rail Industry Worker (RIW) Card.
- White Card (Construction Induction NSW).
- Working at Heights Certification.
Willingness to undertake:
- MTS Permit Holder Electrical (Network) training.
- MTS Substation Access training.
Skills & Experience:
- Proven hands-on experience in fibre optic splicing, termination, and testing.
- Proficiency with OTDRs, light source, power meters, and other fibre testing tools.
- Ability to interpret and apply fibre drawings and splice schematics.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills for fault identification and resolution.
- Experience working on infrastructure, rail, or industrial-scale projects.
Desirable Skills
- Previous exposure to rail or operationally sensitive environments.
- Familiarity with HSEQ compliance frameworks.
- Strong teamwork skills, working alongside electricians and copper cablers in integrated delivery teams.
