Central Highlands Regional Council is seeking a motivated, reliable, and eager-to-learn trainee to join our Parks and Gardens team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain full-time, paid work while working towards a
Certificate III in Parks & Gardens.
As an apprentice, you'll help maintain Council's parks and gardens and gain hands-on experience operating a variety of tools, equipment, and machinery. You'll combine outdoor, physical work with formal training. If you enjoy being active, working outdoors, and want to build a rewarding career in horticulture and open space maintenance, this could be the perfect first step. Apply now
*What You'll Be Doing:*
- Assisting with routine maintenance tasks such as mowing, edging, pruning, mulching, planting, and fertilising
- Learning turf management techniques for sports fields and recreation areas
- Supporting the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems
- Participating in tree planting and vegetation management
- Assisting in garden bed preparation, planting, and basic garden design under supervision
- Helping with weed, pest, and disease control using safe, environmentally responsible methods
- Operating and maintaining small plant, hand tools, and power equipment safely
*To Be Considered For This Opportunity, You Will Need:*
- A willingness to learn and a positive, can-do attitude
- Sound written and verbal communication skills
- Teamwork skills and the capacity to work in a hands-on, outdoor environment
- Basic computer literacy to support training and on-the-job tasks
- The ability to complete a Nationally Recognised Qualification (Certificate III in Parks & Gardens) within 24 months
- Commitment to undertaking the requirements of the associated qualification
- A minimum Queensland C Class manual provisional driver's licence (or eligibility and willingness to obtain one within 6 months of commencement)
- A General Construction Induction Card (White Card), or willingness to obtain prior to commencement
