Position Information

Dungowan Public School (TP2) is located in a rural setting near Tamworth, NSW. The school is projected to have an enrolment of 29 students in 2026, including 4 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Having celebrated its sesquicentenary in 2024, the school offers a high-quality education within an ideal rural environment. The Dungowan school community believes every student should be challenged to learn and continuously improve within a respectful, inclusive environment that upholds high expectations. As a small, vibrant rural school, its vision is to be partners in learning, collaboratively empowering all students to become confident, resilient, self-directed, and successful learners.

Dungowan Public School is dedicated to fostering a culture of shared learning with other small schools in the Tamworth Small Schools cluster. Students regularly participate in sport, arts, and cross-curricular activities, providing additional academic and social opportunities. The school is deeply engaged in biodiversity education, which it prioritises as a key focus.

In recent years, students have achieved performance levels at the state standard in NAPLAN and Check-in assessments. The school plans to continue enhancing assessment practices and further developing Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs) for all students to promote learning, wellbeing, and the growth of self-directed learners. The external validation process was completed in 2025, paving the way for the development of the new School Excellence Plan cycle for 2026–2029.

Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary.

  1. Demonstrated ability to effectively balance the complex teaching, administrative, and leadership responsibilities of a teaching principal, while focusing on inclusive, individualised educational programs that support the improvement of student outcomes across multi-stage class settings.

  2. A highly visible leader with strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to engage staff, parents, community groups, and network schools to advance the school's improvement journey, while fostering a culture of high expectations, cohesion, collaboration, and accountability.

  3. Demonstrated experience as an instructional leader who inspires staff to cultivate a culture of expertise in classroom practice, with a focus on explicit teaching in literacy and numeracy to enhance learning and student wellbeing.

General Selection Criteria
  1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

  2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

  3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

  4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

  5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

  6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school's RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Teaching Principal Level TP2 for 2025 and Teaching Principal Level TP2 for 2026.

Applicants are to include details of their WWCC clearance number as part of this application.
