At Northparkes, we are known for having innovative, technical and collaborative people. The operations include block caving, sub-level caving and open pit and was the first mine in Australia to use the block cave mining method. Your Benefits

We offer a comprehensive range of benefits to support your transition and enhance your experience throughout the program. At our Northparkes site, housing is provided in a mixed house with your own room, and housing costs are subsidized. You will need your own transport between the house and the site. Flights are provided at the beginning and end of the program, as well as for the Christmas break. If you choose to travel to Parkes by personal car, fuel costs will be reimbursed. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided to ensure your safety and comfort on the job. Candidates who successfully complete the vacation program will be fast-tracked into our graduate program.

This is a 12-week residential program running from December to February, on a roster of 5 days on 2 days off and 4 days on 3 days off working a 8.5-hour day.

Our Vacation Program offers you the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally through a range of enriching experiences, including:

  • Gaining hands-on experience through on-the-job learning
  • Taking ownership of real projects with meaningful impact
  • Receiving mentorship from experienced technical leaders
  • Participating in operational and personal development training

About the role

The Vacation Student - IT is a developmental position designed to build technical and support capabilities within the IT Service and Infrastructure team. The role provides hands-on experience in systems support, network monitoring, and cybersecurity practices. Each task is supervised by an IT professional, aligning responsibilities with the student's technical skills and interest in enterprise systems.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Assisting with helpdesk support and troubleshooting hardware/software issues
  • Setting up and maintaining user accounts, devices, and access permissions
  • Supporting network monitoring and basic diagnostics
  • Updating IT asset registers and inventory systems
  • Assisting with software rollouts, updates, and patching
  • Participating in cybersecurity awareness and compliance tasks
  • Documenting IT procedures and user guides for internal systems

About you

The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Computer Science or similar degree. Ideally you will have some experience with relevant software and systems through studies or placements. You should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively across verbal, written, numerical, and graphical formats. You will be able to uphold high work standards, build strong relationships with peers and leaders, and work independently to meet personal and team goals. A valid manual driver's licence and willingness to live and work remotely are essential for this role.
