Project Superintendent

Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. Harmony recently acquired 100% of the Eva Copper project, a near-term copper project in Queensland, Australia.

This role will be offered as a FIFO opportunity from/to Australia working on a 16/12-day roster.

We are seeking an experienced Project Superintendent to provide management of processing business unit projects, cost control, work management close out functions and administration functions at Hidden Valley Mine.

Reporting to the Fixed Plant Maintenance Manager, the key responsibilities of this role include:

• Promote active participation of employees in identifying and reporting potential safety and environmental hazards.
• Liaise with Health, Safety, Environmental and Community Relations staff regarding issues, incidents or non-compliance within the area of your responsibility
• Ensure that all employees and contractors comply with the Safety and Environmental Management Plan and the company's community relations policies
• Engagement in the development of departmental budgets and business plans that are consistent with the Fixed Plant Maintenance Work Management Process, as well as company objectives and strategic plans
• Lead decision making, whilst ensuring that employees are empowered to make decisions on issues within their competency
• Monitor decision quality, checking for adherence to policies and standards, and coaching and mentoring for improvement
• Project Management - This role supports the delivery against short range forecast and budget for Safety Productivity and Cost through the effective portfolio management, planning and execution of projects and in ensuring compliance to engineering standards and document management processes
• Submit budget and schedule variations to management for approval and manage cost effectively
• Ensure compliance with Engineering Standards for all plant and equipment and in Document and Change Management procedures and processes
• Ensure all project work is adequately planned resourced and to be undertaken in a safe and cost-effective manner to meet the requirements of the operation
• Cost Control, CER Development, mid and end of month cost reviews and accruals
• Weekly Capital Project Cost Updates (Budget/Commitment or Actual Cost/Forecast)
• Contract development, approval and variations as required
• Management of the Corrosion Control team for remediation of steel work within the plant

About You:

You must be a highly experienced professional who is self-motivated and able to work efficiently and collaboratively in a team environment holding the following qualifications and experience:

• 10 years' experience in Project Management.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in mining environment
• Demonstrated high level of commitment to safety.
• Prior work experience in Papua New Guinea or developing countries will be highly regarded.
