Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Mental Health Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our frontline team in Brisbane. This role is focused on supporting veterans and their families to enhance their mental health, daily functioning, and overall quality of life. You will deliver trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and holistic care interventions that build resilience, independence, and participation in meaningful life roles.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment and Intervention
Conduct functional, psychosocial, and mental health assessments with veterans and family members.
Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans that support recovery, resilience, and participation in daily activities.
Deliver individual, group, and family interventions targeting coping strategies, emotional regulation, and practical skill-building.
Provide trauma-informed care to address the impacts of PTSD, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and service-related mental health challenges.
Functional Recovery and Participation
Support veterans and families in restoring or developing daily living skills, routines, and meaningful activities.
Facilitate graded exposure, sensory modulation, and activity-based interventions to promote recovery.
Conduct workplace, home, and community assessments, recommending adaptive equipment or environmental modifications as clinically appropriate.
Collaborate with employers, schools, and service providers to support reintegration into work, study, and community life.
Care Coordination and Collaboration
Work closely with GPs, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and allied health providers to ensure integrated care pathways.
Provide family education and coaching to strengthen coping skills and understanding of mental health conditions.
Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and case reviews.
Compliance and Reporting
Maintain accurate, confidential clinical notes in line with AHPRA, and organisational standards.
Use validated outcome measures to demonstrate treatment effectiveness and meet reporting requirements.
Ensure all interventions are clinically justified, evidence-based, and outcome-driven.
Contribute to program evaluation, service improvement, and continuous quality assurance.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
Degree-qualified Occupational Therapist with current AHPRA registration.
Demonstrated skills in functional assessment, activity-based intervention, and trauma-informed care.
Excellent communication, report-writing, and clinical reasoning skills.
Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
Strong knowledge of psychosocial and functional challenges faced by veterans and families.
Experience working with ADF members, veterans, or their families.
Training in CBT-based OT interventions, sensory modulation, or family systems approaches.
