Invisible Partners is proud to be representing VMIA.
VMIA is the Victorian Government's insurer and risk adviser, covering hospitals, schools, emergency services, cultural institutions, and infrastructure. Its purpose is clear and compelling: building a confident, resilient Victoria through world-leading harm prevention and recovery.
Working here means more than handling claims — it means influencing outcomes that strengthen the public sector, improve safety, and ensure taxpayer dollars are used thoughtfully. It's meaningful work with a real impact on the community.
The Opportunity
As Claims Portfolio Manager, you'll lead VMIA's Medical Indemnity team and hold responsibility for one of the organisation's most complex and high-impact portfolios. From medical negligence to personal injury and direct claimant matters, your leadership will influence how claims are managed, how clients experience VMIA, and how public resources are safeguarded.
You'll guide a team of claims specialists through sensitive and high-stakes matters, ensuring consistency, defensibility, and client-centred service. You'll also play a key role in shaping strategy, strengthening systems, and embedding best practice across VMIA's claims division.
Why this role?
- Strategic and hands-on leadership:
lead a capable team while retaining visibility across the most complex and sensitive cases. - High-impact portfolio:
work at the frontline of healthcare, law, and public trust. - Collaborative influence:
partner with legal providers, government stakeholders, and colleagues across VMIA to shape consistent, future-focused claims practice. - Culture and capability:
foster resilience, embed safe work practices, and develop your team's capability for long-term impact.
What you'll bring
You'll be an experienced leader in claims or a related field with:
- A strong track record leading teams and managing complex portfolios.
- Specialist knowledge of medical indemnity, medical negligence, or personal injury law.
- The ability to manage sensitive, reputationally significant claims with empathy and authority.
- Proven capability in governance, compliance, and financial oversight of large claim portfolios.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, able to influence across government, healthcare, and legal partners.
- A leadership style that balances accountability with support, and technical expertise with care for people.
How to apply
To apply, please submit your CV and a cover letter outlining your motivation and alignment with the role. We're running a short and targeted campaign, and applications will close on
