Senior Engineering Specialist (Air/Ground Communication Systems)

• Fed Gov - aviation sector / 12-month contract

As a Senior Engineering Specialist, you will support the Operation and Maintenance of assets that are critical to the delivery of Air Navigation Services and Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS) to industry.

This is a unique opportunity to directly contribute to enhancing safety and service delivery to the aviation industry. You will work as a Senior Engineering Specialist in the Communications Technology Services team, where you will be responsible for a variety of engineering projects and tasks within the communications domain.  The Senior Engineering Specialist is a key role and provides technical leadership and system engineering input to ensure that regulatory requirements are met.

As a Senior Engineering Specialist, you will primarily support activities in the VHF communications domain. Additionally, you will provide engineering support to the UHF and HF communications domain as needed. 

Responsibilities:

• Act as a trusted technology advisor. Provide technical leadership and guidance as required, including safety and security guidance
• Develop technical plans and monitor progress against them
• Manage the technology change process, ensuring effective configuration management and change control
• Perform systems engineering and project tasks per safety and system management policies, frameworks, guidelines and procedures
• Assist Projects to deliver against specified requirements
• Conduct tasks associated with technology change control and management per Frameworks to ensure the integrity of the system baseline
• Maintain an appropriate base level of knowledge of current and proposed Communications, Navigation, Surveillance and Air Traffic Management systems and supporting Infrastructure systems
• Assist other engineering and technology staff as directed by the Team Leader
• Actively participate in cross-training to develop specialised skills and technologies
• Manage assigned tasks effectively to achieve the appropriate levels of safety, quality and efficiency within the schedule and allocated budget.

To be successful in this position, it is expected that you will have the following:

• Completed a tertiary qualification in Engineering and be eligible for Registration as a Professional Engineer in the relevant area of engineering in accordance with relevant legislation e.g. Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ)
• Significant experience with the application of Systems Engineering processes to unique and complex systems across multiple industries
• Experience with engaging with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
• Demonstrated values-based behaviours, and ability to support organisational capability and culture
• Excellent oral and communication skills and the ability to work independently or in a team environment
• Previous experience with the application of aviation Safety Management Systems (desirable)
• Sound understanding of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations Part 171 (desirable)
• Highly Desirable: Experience in designing, maintaining and supporting air traffic management systems, particularly in the communications domains (VHF, UHF, HF)
