About the Company

Our client, a leading, high profile automotive organisation in Australia, is seeking an experienced In-house Legal Counsel / Senior Legal Counsel to provide strategic, commercially focused legal advice across the business.

About the Role

Reporting to the Managing Director, this is a unique opportunity to work closely with the Executive team on complex legal, governance, and compliance matters.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the Executive Chairman, Managing Director, and senior management on commercial contracts, franchising, competition and consumer law, privacy, intellectual property, employment, and corporate governance.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex agreements, balancing commercial objectives with legal risk mitigation.
  • Lead compliance and governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with relevant legislation, including ACL, Franchising Code, and Privacy Act.
  • Manage disputes, regulatory inquiries, and litigation, liaising with external counsel where required.
  • Monitor legislative changes and provide proactive advice on emerging risks.
  • Drive continuous improvement in legal processes, policies, and documentation.
  • Support strategic projects, acquisitions, partnerships, and cross-border activities.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Law and a current practising certificate in NSW.
  • 8+ years post qualification experience in either a reputable Australian law firm or in-house

Required Skills

  • Extensive in-house legal experience in the Australian automotive industry.
  • Strong commercial acumen with practical, solution-focused advice.
  • Proven expertise in complex contracts, compliance, and regulatory matters.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
