The role
This role helps the department make smart use of digital technologies—like AI and automation—by embedding strong governance and ethical standards. It's about making sure digital tools support better services, smarter decisions, and align with NSW Government policies. You'll work closely with teams across the organisation to spot opportunities, guide innovation, and build digital confidence.
The challenge lies in keeping up with fast-moving tech while balancing risks, stakeholder expectations, and compliance. You'll lead efforts to simplify complex ideas, promote secure and inclusive innovation, and help others understand and adopt emerging technologies responsibly.

What you will bring to the role
- Strategic insight and innovation mindset – Ability to identify opportunities for digital transformation that align with organisational goals and deliver measurable impact.
- Strong governance and ethical leadership – Deep understanding of AI, data, and digital standards, ensuring compliance and responsible technology adoption.
- Collaborative stakeholder engagement – Skilled in working across diverse teams to balance competing priorities and drive consensus on complex digital initiatives.
- Clear and inclusive communication – Capable of translating technical concepts into accessible language for non-technical audiences, fostering informed decision-making.
- Capability building and mentorship – Passionate about growing digital literacy and fostering a culture of secure, ethical innovation through coaching and knowledge sharing.
Key knowledge and experience:
- Demonstrated knowledge of emerging technology and AI principles, methods, tools, and applications.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the relevant ethical, legal, and regulatory frameworks and standards for NSW government
What is an essential requirement:
- Industry Certification or training in Digital, AI, emerging technology or a relevant professional qualification.
- Tertiary Qualification in IT, Computer Science or related discipline
