Family Support Coordinator
Are you a people person who can connect with anyone — from tiny preppies to proud grandparents — and make them feel instantly at ease?
We're looking for a dynamic, warm, and approachable Family Support Coordinator to join our two vibrant school communities. This is a role that truly makes a difference. You'll be the friendly face and
listening ear who helps families navigate the big step into school life — from early childhood through to those important first years of school.
You'll connect families with the right supports, help build their confidence, and ensure every child starts and stays on a positive learning path.
Walloon State School:
Walloon State School is a semi-rural school west of Ipswich with a proud history dating back to 1877. We combine modern education with strong community connections and a commitment to continuous improvement. Our 2024 focus is on knowing our students and delivering high-impact instruction in Maths, supported by quality curriculum and dedicated staff. We believe in helping every student grow, encouraging nature play, risky play and stepping into the courage zone. With three daily breaks and unique programs like High Ropes, Courage Plus, Sage and our Athlete Development Academy, Walloon offers a learning experience that is both challenging and fun.
Rosewood State School:
Rosewood State School is located in the West Moreton District, 20 kilometres south-west of Ipswich, and serves both residential and rural communities. With strong community ties and easy access via bus and train, the school supports a diverse student population and a wide range of interests and abilities. Most students continue to Rosewood State High School, with others attending schools in Ipswich. The school is well supported by its parent community and maintains active involvement in local events and activities.
About the role:
Working across Walloon SS and Rosewood SS (just ten minutes apart but each with their own unique character), you'll:
- Build trusting relationships with families from all walks of life.
- Link parents and carers with the supports and services that help children thrive.
- Work flexibly and independently, tailoring your approach to suit each family and community.
- Be a calm, capable conduit between home, school, and community.
- Collaborate closely with staff and agencies to strengthen engagement and wellbeing for every child.
We're looking for someone who is:
- Adaptable and comfortable working in two different school settings.
- Empathetic and approachable — someone families can turn to for guidance and reassurance.
- Proactive and self-directed, with the initiative to build and drive partnerships.
- Committed to equity, inclusion and positive outcomes for children.
The application process
Applicants are asked to provide:
A one-page statement outlining why you believe you're the ideal fit for this role across both schools.
We encourage you to research our two schools to understand our communities and values before applying.
Shortlisted applicants will also participate in a video interview, where they'll be presented with two real-world scenarios reflecting the types of challenges families may face when transitioning into school. This is your opportunity to showcase your skills, judgement, and ability to respond with care and practical support in authentic situations.
We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.
Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.
Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.
