About The Program
A key recommendation from the Royal Commission emphasised the crucial role of families and carers in not only caring for their loved ones, but also in the overall functioning and sustainability of the mental health system.
The Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect (Connect Centres) will form a vital component of the integrated services provided in the reformed Mental Health and Wellbeing system in Victoria.
Services will be provided primarily by a team of individuals with personal experience as carers, and will offer support to families, carers, kin, and supporters of individuals facing mental health challenges, psychological distress, mental illness, or substance use concerns.
About The Role
As Volunteers, you will have the opportunity to engage in a range of support activities in the Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect Centre that will empower carers/supporters and family members to make meaningful change
in their lives and the lives of the people they are supporting
Volunteer activities will include:
- Welcoming new people to the center
- Providing an overview of the center's activities.
- Collect details of carers/supporters who attend the centre (if they wish to provide them)
- Assisting speakers/activity facilitators with group activities
- Provide a warm, inclusive, and welcoming approach
- Attend groups as a lived experience/ carer supporter/ family member
- Share experiences/ strategies/ knowledge during group sessions
- Participate in group work training to develop skills for co-facilitation
- Contribute ideas and reflections during group activities
- Assist with transport of carers/supporters to and from events (i.e., transport to and from walking group destination, picking up guest speakers/facilitators

What you will bring:
- Personal lived experience of caring for someone with mental health challenges or psychosocial distress and recovery
- Valid Australian Driver License
- Non-judgmental, supportive attitude and ability to empathise
- Current or willingness to obtain a National Police Check, Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Orientation Module, NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Evidence of right to work / volunteer within Australia
