Primary objective

Provide graphic design services, content creation, communications advice and support, to effectively promote the activities

of the department to enable the achievement of agency strategic goals.

Context statement

As part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team this role provides best practice communications services including design and

production support for a broad range of internal and external communications activities. The candidate should have

experience using modern communication channels and trends, including digital marketing channels, content marketing and

social media, with consideration of public and political implications.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Assist in implementing communication activities, such as public awareness campaigns, promotional activities and digital

communication materials, consistent with government policies and strategies.

2. Provide a high-quality desktop design service, including coordinating, creating, designing and preparing communication

materials (such as annual report, publications, documents, displays, advertising and digital) with stakeholder consultation.

3. Assist in developing and coordinating effective communications to maximise engagement and reach.

  1. Support the planning, development and implementation of communications projects and tactics to meet client needs,

through strong project coordination.

5. Provide writing, proofreading and editing skills for a complete range of communication materials.

6. Coordinate materials, source and identify cost efficiencies for publications and manage contractors.

  1. Provide support to the Assistant Director Communications.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated experience in developing, planning and implementing strategic communication strategies, incorporating

contemporary and tailored communications and engagement tactics to meet client and program objectives.

  1. Superior desktop design and publishing services, integrating traditional, contemporary and emerging applications (videos,

animation, social media) with the ability to think creatively and conceptualise content in innovative ways.

  1. Proficient in a range of computer applications, including Adobe Creative, Microsoft Office, and video production and

animation software to produce communication, marketing and advertising products.

4. Strong oral and written communication skills, with proven ability to proofread, copy edit, source and translate technical

information into plain English for diverse audiences, with attention to detail and expertise in document production.

5. Well-developed organisational and time-management skills.

6. Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a flexible and responsive manner to support team objectives, to

self-identify risks and opportunities, and to interact as an engaged, effective team member.

7. Excellent interpersonal skills to maintain effective relationships.

8. Proven ability to brief and coordinate external service providers in accordance with relevant policies.
