Primary objective

The Community Liaison Officer - Hearing (CLO) will work with the NT hearing services team to promote good hearing and language

development in babies and inform parents about how to keep baby's ears strong. This position performs a critical community

connection role, linking families to hearing health services and information to raise awareness and educate communities that

hearing loss in children is preventable. This role works to support early identification, intervention and management of ear disease

to help reduce long term impacts leading to hearing loss. This position is required to travel to remote communities for up to 5 days

at a time.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. The CLO will work jointly with the NT Hearing Services team to develop and deliver community activities that focus on primary

prevention to promote good hearing and language development in babies.

2. Engage with community members and relevant stakeholders, Families as First Teachers, Department of Education, and Northern

Territory Government and Aboriginal Community Control Health services to motivate the promotion of good hearing and

language development in children.

  1. Organise local participation and assist to deliver relevant and appropriate ear health messages and family support programs

that meet the needs of remote Aboriginal children and their families.

  1. Use a strengths-approach to actively support families to connect with a range of available Aboriginal child and family services.
  2. Establish and maintain strong working relationships and networks with local community members and service providers to

progress ear and hearing health awareness, education and care.

6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Ability to deliver health education and health promotion activities and to engage and motivate people to participate, with the

ability to explain concepts clearly and accurately.

2. Demonstrated clear understanding of local and cultural issues in early childhood service provision.

3. Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team across remote, regional and urban Aboriginal communities, with the capacity

to work unsupervised to achieve outcomes with good time management skills.

4. Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate in English, both written and orally and share knowledge and information.

5. Hold a current Northern Territory (NT) manual driver's licence or the ability to obtain.

6. Follow defined service quality standards, and relevant work health and safety policies and procedures, in written and spoken

English, to contribute to the integrity and safety of services and the workplace

Desirable

1. Ear and hearing health knowledge.

2. Ability to understand or communicate in local Top End NT languages.
