Support Worker – Complex Mental Health

AblePoint Australia is seeking compassionate and experienced Support Workers to provide person-centered care for a male participant (31 years old) with complex mental health needs, based in Kempsey. The participant will be discharged from hospital on 29 September and will require structured support in the community and at home.

This role requires workers who can demonstrate resilience, empathy, and professionalism when working with individuals experiencing persistent psychotic symptoms, schizophrenia, and significant daily living challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily living support, prompting, and guidance with personal care, meals, and routines.
  • Safely transport the participant from Port Macquarie Airport to Kempsey upon discharge and support ongoing community access.
  • Assist with medication prompts, monitoring wellbeing, and documenting daily progress.
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviors with a trauma-informed and therapeutic approach.
  • Encourage social participation, independence, and engagement with structured activities.
  • Work collaboratively with health professionals, family, and the AblePoint team to ensure consistent, high-quality care.

Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting individuals with complex mental health conditions.
  • Demonstrated skills in managing challenging behaviors (aggression, paranoia, social withdrawal).
  • Behaviour Support Training (scheduled for Thursday, 25 September) – mandatory to attend.
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check (NDISWC), First Aid & CPR, and NDIS Orientation Module.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle (essential for transport requirements).
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and record-keeping skills.

Preferred

  • Male support workers of similar age group (20s–40s) to participant.
  • First Nations background strongly encouraged.
