Specialist Homelessness Service - Case Worker - Kempsey

Newcastle Anglican is at the core of some of the most well-known businesses within Newcastle, Hunter, Central Coast & Mid North Coast organisations. Our service agencies include Anglican Care and Samaritans as well as Newcastle Anglican Schools Corporation and 54 Anglican parishes.
About the Opportunity
The Caseworker will work as part of the Samaritans Specialist Homelessness Service in the Kempsey local government area (LGA).
Samaritans Specialist Homelessness Service delivers is a client-centred, collaborative service that ensures:
- Women and women with children at imminent risk of homelessness are identified and supported to remain safely in their existing housing, or to secure stable housing.
- Women and women with children who are homeless are rapidly and safely re-housed.
- Women and women with children who are in crisis are provided with safe and secure accommodation and supported to access stable housing.
- Women and women with children who are re-housed after becoming homeless are supported to stay housed.
- The provision of after-hours support and accommodation for women, with or without children, who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness as a result of domestic and family violence. The Caseworker will work with a range women and women and children that are at different levels of intensity and may be at different stages of the program, and housing stability. They will be responsible for the assessment the needs, establishment of individual plans, referral, and the implementation of wrap around services
Samaritans Specialist Homelessness Service delivers an afterhours Domestic and Family Violence Response Enhancement. Assigned case workers are first level responders to women and their children leaving DFV afterhours and working through a safety plan and providing safe options until the next business day, where additional support will be provided.
- Location: Kempsey
- Part Time - 4 days per week 64 hours per fortnight
- Full time fixed term contract until 30th June 2027

- This role is paid under the Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Award 2010- Level 4.1 - $44.58/hour

Essential Criteria
- Experience in Case Management practice and strengths-based approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop rapport and communicate effectively with women and their children, to listen to them so as to assist them to make informed decisions and develop skills for living within the community.
- Effective conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated understanding of the complex needs of women and families facing homelessness and domestic violence
- Proven skills of engagement that result in effective change management.
- High level of computer literacy & highly developed administrative skills.
- Demonstrated commitment and ability to maintain confidentiality and accountability, including client records, team, and organisational discussions.
- Ability to operate with minimal supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Well-developed time management and organisational skills, including demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
- Understanding of and commitment to the principles of Child Protection, WH&S, cultural diversity, and ethical practice.
- Proven ability to effectively and proactively network and liaise with government and nongovernment service providers.
