Kempsey, Australia Ablepoint Australia Full time $32 - $40 per year

Ablepoint Australia is seeking an experienced and compassionate Support Worker to assist a participant returning to Kempsey from hospital care. This role is best suited to someone with mental health experience, cultural awareness, and the ability to provide structured daily support.

About the Role

You will be supporting a 31-year-old Aboriginal participant diagnosed with schizophrenia, who requires consistent prompting and structured supports for daily living.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support with daily routines, personal care, and household tasks.
  • Deliver structured prompting for activities due to memory and problem-solving deficits.
  • Monitor and respond to psychotic symptoms (hallucinations, paranoia, delusions) with patience and professionalism.
  • Encourage social interaction and safe community engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with the participant's family and wider support network.

Participant Needs

  • Requires constant prompting due to slow processing and cognitive challenges.
  • Experiences persistent psychotic symptoms that may cause mistrust, paranoia, and aggression.
  • Displays social withdrawal, poor self-care, and avolition, making independence unfeasible without structured supports.

About You – The Ideal Support Worker

  • Experience working in mental health support, particularly with schizophrenia or complex behaviours.
  • Patient, calm, and able to provide step-by-step guidance.
  • Trauma-informed and culturally aware (Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander workers strongly encouraged to apply).
  • Reliable, with a valid driver's licence and vehicle for transport support.
  • Holds NDIS Worker Screening Check, First Aid/CPR, and relevant qualifications (e.g., Cert III/IV in Mental Health, Disability, or Community Services).

Why Join Ablepoint Australia?

  • Make a life-changing difference for someone returning to community living.
  • Be part of a supportive, inclusive, and culturally respectful team.
  • Competitive pay rates with ongoing professional development opportunities.
