Your role at St John of God Midland Hospital

St John of God Midland Hospital are currently seeking a Release of Information Officer to join our Health Information services team in a permanent full-time capacity.

In this role, you will be responsible for receiving, assessing, and actioning applications for access to documents in line with relevant legislation and organisational policies. This includes carefully reviewing requests to ensure that access to patient information is lawful, justified, and compliant with established protocols.

You will play a key role in safeguarding patient confidentiality by applying strict privacy standards, exercising sound judgement, and maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail throughout the process.

The Position

  • Contributes to the update of Release of Information (ROI), Policy Guidelines, Standards and Procedures.
  • Coordinates the implementation of ROI and related policies, guidelines and procedures within the Department.
  • Prepares formal decisions on applications under the supervision of the Health Information Manager.
  • Represents the Department on appropriate internal or external forums.
  • Seeks advice from relevant Government Agencies on issues regarding the release of information as appropriate.
  • Maintains effective relationships with Group Legal on ROI matters
  • Provides advice to Caregivers and customers on ROI matters.
  • Consults and negotiates with key stakeholders within and outside the Department, including applicants, internal staff, third parties and government agencies.
  • Implements effective customer focused service delivery of ROI outputs.
  • Assists the Health Information Manager to monitor and report on ROI performance, including the collection and analysis of statistics.
  • Provides support to the Health Information Services as required.
  • Conducts searches for relevant files and documents.
  • Audits access to health records and reports inappropriate access
  • Audits quality of health record scanning.
  • Completes corrections as required in health record.
  • Contributes towards security around ROI records captured in the recordkeeping system.

Position Requirements

You will have well developed communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated knowledge of Freedom of Information and Privacy legislation and processes.

To succeed you will have planning and organisational skills with well-developed customer service, relationship management skills, conceptual, analytical and research skills. Records management experience would be highly desirable.
