Clinipath Pathology is a Perth-based subsidiary of Sonic Healthcare with a reputation as a quality pathology service provider, focusing on professional excellence, reliability and excellent customer service.

We are currently seeking an experienced Scientist to assist in the management of our Toxicology Department at our Osborne Park Laboratory on a full time permanent basis.

The 2IC reports to the Senior Scientist in Charge in Toxicology and Head of Department Pathologist.

Hours will be rostered 7.6 hours per weekday between 6.00 am to 6.00 pm, 76 hours per fortnight on a rotating roster. Occasional weekend work may also be required.

This position is to assist in the efficient operation of the Toxicology Department, to drive improvements to meet business needs, and to encourage positive teamwork.  This role includes the supervision of all staff within the department, as well as maintenance and development of reporting and quality systems and development of new test methods.

The following are essential requirements for this role:

  • A degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a science degree with subjects relevant to the field of pathology, or an overseas qualification which has been assessed by AIMS as being equivalent
  • Extensive experience working within the field of Toxicology, reporting to the AS/NZS 4308:2023 and AS/NZS 4760:2019 Standards
  • Proven experience and knowledge in quality management systems and relevant pathology standards
  • Strong, proven interpersonal, communication, people management and leadership skills. This includes experience in performance management as well as demonstrated ability to maintain and build relationships within and across teams
  • Experience in development of new methods and implementing new services
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with proven experience in all aspects of customer service
  • A commitment to continuing education and maintenance of high professional standards
  • Good computer literacy with extensive experience using Laboratory Information Systems
  • An understanding of workplace health and safety issues and an ability to implement and maintain safe standards and work practices in the department
  • Current Police clearance
